First noticed by Master Couillaud (founder of the Horseman Professionnal School) for his outstanding abilities, and then by the Colonel Lair (Ecuyer en chef) for his obvious talent, Patrick LE ROLLAND rapidly joined the famous Cadre Noir of Saumur in 1964.
Here PLR showed some real equestrian prowesses. Very quickly he became the “Maître de Manège” and was awarded the position of “Chief Warrant Officer”.
After several experiences in horse racing and events, PLR became the only rider to represent the Cadre Noir of Saumur in Dressage International trials for many years :
- 4 times winner of the French Championship : 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973 with his horse Cramique
- Vice champion of the French Championship : 1971 and 1972 with his horse Quipos
- Winner of the Rotterdam International Horse Trial in 1970 with Quipos
- Munich Olympic Games participant in 1972
- 4th at the Grand Prix of Aix-la-Chapelle with the French National Team in 1973
- 7th at the World Championship of Copenhagen in 1974
- 3rd at the Grand Prix of Aix-la-Chapelle with the French National Team in 1975
- 12th at the European Championship of Aarhus in 1979…
Patrick LE ROLLAND remains the only rider in the world, with Nicole Uphoff and Anky Van Grunsven, to get a mark of 10/10 “for position”, in any International Horse Dressage Trial.
After many prizes and throughout an unusual career, PLR became one of the rare contemporary riders to know how to combine gracefulness and lightness, with performances at the highest level of competition.
World-recognized by his peers, Patrick LE ROLLAND, viewed as one of the most gifted French Dresseurs, was nominated coach of the French National Team in 1981 :
- Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984
- Margit Otto-Crepin’s coach and her horse Corlandus...
In 1985 PLR left the French Equestrian Federation to work as a private coach.
Following a short break at the Rockefeller’s barns in the USA, he settled down in Belgium where his fame allowed him to teach all over the world.
In 2001, Patrick LE ROLLAND returned to France where he carried on his carreer as a private Dressage coach in Normandie.
Today, PLR is back in Saumur and is still very much needed in France as well as throughout the world.
He still gives lessons to professional riders as well teaching the new up and coming generation.
Both are searching for Patrick LE ROLLAND’s outstanding knowledge and know-how.
Well-appreciated for his pedagogy, PLR instructs much more than a simple skill to his students. He passes on his own philosophy : a fusion between the horse and its rider.
Patrick LE ROLLAND still remains one of the international references in the Horse World.
At the end of the year 2007, Patrick LE ROLLAND and his son Thomas found a new French clothing and accessories brand for horse riding : PLR - The Mark of Success...
Especially designed and made in France, PLR proposes an original clothing line such as jackets, rain-coats, horse riding breeches...
PLR clothing suits perfectly to the avid Dressage and Jumping enthousiasts in search of a new Style of elegance and comfort.
Late 2009, PLR - The Mark of Success launches its range of leather accessories with the marketing of the "LE ROLLAND original horse training aid" for young horses.
In addition of the "original training aid", PLR now offers and distributes its own anatomic bridle.
2011 is as well the year of release of the reference Book "Principles of Dressage of Patrick Le Rolland"...
Regarding the film "Sport de Filles", freely inspired by the life of Patrick Le Rolland, the cinema release is scheduled for January 2012.
